Tips of The Welding Machining Processes In The Industry
The welding machining processes is the very important machined method, it is very widely used in many industries such as the metal fabrication processes. Welding plays a significant role in the entire process of metal fabrication. The role of welding is bonding metal components to each other. Having knowledge of the common types of welding techniques provides an insight to our customers on what we do. Our customers can thus know what to expect making it easier for our customer to know the metal products and components outcome. Creatingway’s metal fabricators are professionals at this service and assure you value for your money.
Below are five primary welding machining techniques
-
MIG welding
An acronym for metal inert gas welding, this type of welding creates smooth surfaces suitable for consumer goods. If you desire a seamless, strong weld between stainless steel, aluminum, and other popular metals, we recommend MIG for you. It is suitable for thick metal components.
-
Plasma arc welding
This type of welding requires professionals that we have at your convenience. The process is complex and requires much time. The overall outcome is a high integrity bond for products such as medical equipment, automotive components, and electronics. Despite the process of creating a strong bond between metal pieces, the process operates in high heat. It can reduce the products’ mechanical properties.
-
TIG welding
Also known as tungsten inert gas welding, it provides us with excellent control over the welding process. The welding generates heat from electrical currents resulting in the metal pieces holding together permanently. We use automated CNC welding machines to reduce the number of errors done. We have equipment for these automated machines, and we assure a quality welding outcome.
-
Seam welding
Seam welding involves making a continuous weld along certain joints, e.g., where two pieces of sheet metal meet. It bears a resemblance to spot welding but credited to creating a more durable bond. The main reason being it joins large surfaces enhancing the strength of the bond.
-
Spot welding
One of the most popular types of welding, the application of spot welding is diverse. The applications range in sheet metal fabrication, assembling and metal stamping. The techniques involve welding specific areas, or spots, or metal. We must consider the number of spot welds per foot to create a strong bond between materials. The right number of welds creates a strong bond between materials with few weld pots noted to create weak spots in the bond.
For every metal fabrication project involving welding, there is inevitably some degree of welding distortion. It results from the expansion and contraction of the base metal and the weld metal that occurs during the welding process. The distortions from welding do threaten the structural integrity or aesthetic of your project. Here at Creatingway have adopted the use of different corrective techniques to fix weld distortion. This depends on the type and size of the distortion and materials.
What type of factors will affect the welding machining processes?
The leading cause of welding distortion is high heat application. Below is a highlight of the possible types of welding distortion your project can experience, some more than one type concurrently.
-
Buckle
it frequently occurs to thin metal structures and is associated with difficulty in correction and time consumption.
-
Angular distortion
a form of transverse shrinkage, this type of deformation tends to occur frequently. It occurs when on one side of the neutral axis, stronger contractive forces cause bending of the material in that direction.
-
Bowing and dishing
in a case for the weld there is no balance along the neutral axis of the cross-section, longitudinal shrinkage in the welds causes bending of the section into a curved shape.
-
Transverse shrinkage
contractions running perpendicular to the weld causes shrinkage. The distortion types travel vertically along the weld cross-section and occur parallel to the weld.
-
Longitudinal shrinkage
the distortion formed results from forces parallel to the weld, and the shrinkage occurring is perpendicular to the weld.
What kind of techniques of correction in the productin?
- Mechanical creative techniques
It involves pressing and hammering as the primary mechanical corrections for weld distortion. The entire process of mechanical straightening involves using force with specific types of equipment. The eventual outcome should be to push the distorted area flat. Examples of such equipment include a hammer, wedge, machine press, pneumatic ram, or similar instrument.
- Thermal corrective techniques
The technique is also known as flame straightening. The use of heat to create local stress is high enough to pull back the distorted welds back into shape upon cooling. Application is with the following methods:
- Line heating – heating of the component in a straight line along the welded joint. Done on the opposite side to the weld, it often corrects angular type of distortion
- Spot heating – correction of distortion is by applying heat to spots on the convex side of the weld. The method eliminates buckling in thin sheet metal structures.
- Wedge-shaped heating – for large complex fabrications, wedge shapes heated to correct distortion.
