Tips of CNC Machining Drawings for Faster Quotation
When we get an inquiry from customers, we always ask customers to send 3D drawings and 2D prints. Why do we want to get them? The supplier needs to get a quick quotation out.
More Tips of CNC Machining Drawings For Getting a Faster Quotation
-
If possible, please provide both 3D drawings and 2D prints. ( 3D drawings have IGS, STEP, X_T, UG format, 2D drawing has PDF, JPG formation.)
They should be consistent, which means, the geometry and dimensions match each other. For the 3D drawing, we can get a solid model for machine programming; for the 2D print, we can use it as a reference throughout the machining. So if the customer can provide both, it is better for the supplier.
-
The engineer is always a key factor to judge the drawing.
Always when we get the drawing, we will discuss it with our engineer. Is the drawing ok to produce? Is there any part that is difficult for machining and needs to discuss with the customer to modify? Could we make them cheaper? So providing a drawing with detailed information is necessary and makes things easier to get a faster quotation and best suggestion to get a cheaper price.

Easy text to read is necessary
The lines of text should be dark enough to see clearly. To avoid any mistakes and guesses, using a color such as light grey, blue, and yellow is not a good choice. They are very difficult to read and don’t scan or fax well.
-
To reduce the likelihood of mix-ups, it is better to give all parts unique names.
Marking the full tile block on any revisions, the requested material, and finishes.
-
Hand drawing is also acceptable.
Some customers, really don’t have 3D drawings and formal 2D print. How do they get a faster price from the supplier? Usually, a hand-drawn diagram is also acceptable by a professional supplier. But on the hand drawing, must include the exact dimension, clear tolerances, requested material, and order quantity.
-
Tolerance affects the price a lot.
Sometimes, why the price is so different from nearly the same drawing? The reason is different tolerance. If it is necessary, please avoid any high specification tolerances such as “.00XX”. The higher the tolerance is, the much more expensive the price is.
