How to Effectively Use Laser Cutting In Metal Sheet Fabrication
The laser cutting process is a manufacturing procedure that utilizes laser technology to cut flat metal sheets. At Creatingway, we provide laser cutting services that are unique from other metal fabrication companies in both application and design. Just a fun fact, did you know that laser is an abbreviation for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Therefore, The significant types of laser cutting technology at our disposal include below
- Fiber laser cutting
- CO2 laser cutting
Currently, we mainly use fiber laser cutting process for your projects. We use CNC programme to operate cutting metal sheet based on your CAD drawings.
What you need to know on two main cutting process?
What’s the fiber laser cutting?
Creatingway is among the leading companies in China to set up a fiber laser cutter that cuts through brass, copper, aluminum, titanium, galvanized steel, stainless steel, and their alloys. Usually, fiber laser cutters are efficient at cutting at very high speeds of 1 meter per second. We palletize and move our products through automated machines. It reduces power consumption and costs, and we can thus offer customer-friendly prices.
Different thicknesses of the plates are cut depending on the type of material. Below is the main cutting material including metal and plastic materials for your reference.
Metal material:
- Steel plate – 20mm
- Stainless steel – 15mm
- Aluminum – 15mm
- Copper – 8mm
- Brass – 8mm
Plastic materials:
- PMMA
- Polycarbon (PC)
Following cutting we can further process your product through flattening, bending, welding and finishing services. It proves the dynamism our company provides.
What’s the CO2 laser cutting?
Intricate CO2 laser cutting is an economical, fast, and accurate method we use to cut materials unsuitable for fiber laser cutting. In both our large- and small-scale production series, we maintain fast processing and delivery. We cut thin sheet metal profiles using the high-efficiency SLAB laser. Hence, we can offer all-inclusive processing of thicker black steel plates and metal sheets. An impressive advantage we have discovered of SLAB technology is that it is the most environmentally friendly technology in CO2 laser cutting.
What services do we offer with our laser cutters?
A common question our customers enquire about is, “how dynamically we use our laser cutters?” Well, these are the 3 tasks we can perform to match your projects. Today, we will take them to share with you for reference.
-
Cutting process
A laser beam going all the way through a workpiece material cuts it. The laser beam cut is very precise, according to the customer’s specifications. The type of material determines the look of the cut edge. For example, in a wood where the edge of the original wood is lighter than that of cut wood. Edges of acrylic do not change color and have an excellent glossy finish after cutting. The kerf is the width of the groove the laser makes when cutting. It varies with the laser settings and type of material. The kerf ranges of the company are between 0.05 mm and 0.5mm.
-
Marking process
It refers to when the laser does not remove material, but it instead changes the material’s color. A marking solution is applied to metals to be marked. The marking solution is dried; the engraving follows. The heat of the solution enables bonding of the solution to metal, hence a permanent mark.
-
Engraving process
It is customer-oriented, and the instructions that you provide are a determinant of the outcome. A wide range of work can be engraved, which include pictures and texts of various fonts, sizes, and calligraphy. During engraving, the beam only removes parts at the top of the material. Therefore, does not cut all through the material.
Materials that we recommend should not be laser cut.
As a point of caution, some materials produce toxic dust or gases when processed with a laser. Customers should, therefore, be careful when choosing the type of material, we worked on. It includes:
- Carbon fiber
- Polyvinyl chloride
- Polyvinyl butyral
- Materials containing halogens (such as chlorine, bromine, iodine, astatine, and fluorine), phenolic resins, and epoxides.
How we create the best design for laser cutting
Our laser cutters have specific drives that convert computer images to a readable format. Two types of images exist, raster images, and vector images. Both of their file types can be processed. However, the raster images cannot be cut but are instead only engraved. Vector images are mathematic formulas that store lines, and colors. Raster images, on the other hand, are pixelated. Our experts utilize software that exports file types in suitable formats. If so, the examples of the range of software used include:
3D Design software
- Sketchup
- Solidworks
- Catia
- UG
- Pro/E
2D Design
- Adobe Illustrator
- CorelDRAW
- AutoCAD
The overall functionality of laser cutters
We use Computer Numerical Control parameters to operate our laser cutting systems. It enables high cutting speeds and improved levels of precision. Upon programming of designs into the laser cutter, so we can tweak various shapes and sizes with just a click of a button. CNC programming regulates the power output. Hence, we lower energy used in cutting, and this is without altering tooling needed in adjustments.
