How To Compare CNC Milling and CNC Turning Machined
What’s the CNC (Computerized Numerical Control)?
CNC is a program coded in a computer to achieve some actions as recommended by the commands in a bid to operate machines automatically. CNC has been able to reduce manual operations of machines, since the introduction of artificial intelligence in the manufacturing industries. The program has been able to command machines to perform actions such as grinding, turning, and even milling once set. The existence of the CNC machine in altering the surface texture has been made quite essential due to its ability to perform the task correctly. Human manual operations cannot compare to CNC due to several reasons that range from precision, labor, and efficiency.
The surface texture in CNC machining is one of the many duties that the machines perform flawlessly since the recommended texture programmed into the software, which operated the operation of the machines to function according to command. One of the importance of applying CNC manufacturing in your industry is because the system allows pre-programming to alter the speed and the position of the tools’ function thereby making the cycle of their operation predictable. You can use CNC machines to distinction from grinding, milling, and turning different processes.
Below are CNC Milling and CNC Turning compared
-
CNC machine in the Milling process
CNC Milling has main machined the parts such as metal, plastic even wood machines. In fact, the CNC milling machine uses various tools for cutting various features and sizes. The CNC milling machines have cylindrical cutter operation to cut in X/Y/X axes. Also, CNC milling machines also are more convenient for drilling holes. The convenience in using the CNC milling machine comes from its ability to provide cuts from any angle, The current milling machines have 3,4,5 axis machines.
The most common CNC milling machine has the x, y, and Z axes to operate. There are up to 5-dimensional machines in CNC that operate automatically. CNC milling machines are one of the integral parts of the manufacturing industry. The machines cut the metals in a way that is more convenient than any other machine in vehicle and airplane manufacturing. So CNC milling technology applies for integrated fields like auto, mold, aerospace, rapid prototype.

CNC machine in Turning
CNC in turning is the process where a series of material in the form of bars are held by a clamp-like device or by magnetic forces in position while being rotated as a tool is directed into the workpiece which therefore produces the output of the material to a befitting shape by removing some of its surfaces. The material that moves to the bar is called a turret, and it is programmed to slice off a piece of the material while designing its shape. The shape of the input product, which is usually round, can be of other forms like square and hexagonal. The CNC control that has the turret fixed with some tooling can also allow many tools to be held to decide the shape. Moreover, the number of tooling provided also dictates the availability of options that makes the process more involving.
You can set some CNC turning machines when you have one spindle. It limits the extent of their operation since one spindle can only operate from one direction. Different turning machines have several tooling options to varying options in spindling. They also differ in outer diameter and the speed in spindling, which determines the economic productions of materials that can be its output.

CNC machine in the Grinding process
Grinding using the CNC machines is used to provide an output product with a beautiful or tiny unarticulated surface. The grinding wheel exists in different sizes according to various parts. During the process of grinding, the grinding machine with a wheel that has to rotate at a specific speed suitable for the material to be ground. There also exists a work that holds the room for grinding in place.
The speed and the force of abrasion used by the grinder are capable to add heat to the workpiece which in return can remove it from its position when the temperature goes beyond the bare minimum. This problem is solved by fixing a coolant into the system to help with temperature control. There are several grinding methods that the industries use, and these include external grinding and internal grinding. In external grinding, we have a belt grinder, bench grinder, and cylindrical grinder. Belt grinding majorly applies in the finishing and debarring of materials.
The belt grinder is suitable for grinding metallic materials. Bench grinding, on the other hand, is fixed with two wheels which have different sizes of the abrasive particles. Typical use is when a rough texture needs the tool. There is also the cylindrical grinder which is made using multiple grinding wheels. It operates by fixing the workpiece in between the wheels which provides a cylindrical output product. It is generally suited for the manufacture of rods.
