The Passivation Process is Important for CNC Steel Parts
Passivation is a way to protect CNC steel parts against rust. As one professional CNC machining manufacturer, every day, Creatingway always machined many different geometry shapes and sizes of metal parts based on different materials. Such as Aluminum, Stainless steel, Titanium, and other metal alloys, etc.
When we machined one part, whether it will mean the part finished. For better maintenance of the parts after production, if you have further considered how to prevent rust or corrosion issues of the parts before production and packaging.
Why The Passivation Process Can Protect CNC Steel Parts Rust?
“Why does steel parts are easier to rust before surface treatment? Today, Creatingway will mainly share this knowledge to you by this blog The passivation is essential to the steel part, because it not only avoids the parts rust but also make them perfectly appearance, so the passivation process will be better finishing than the others coating.

What is Passivation?
Passivation is one way of surface treatment of metal parts. Its main purpose is to prevent rust and corrosion of steel parts.
Even though stainless steel is naturally corrosion resistance, but it still needs to be passivized in order to maximize this resistance. A clean, freshly machined and polished stainless steel part which can automatically acquire an oxide film from exposure to oxygen in the air. This protective oxide film will be able to cover all surfaces of the parts and provide adequate corrosion resistance.

Why passivation is better for CNC steel parts?
In general, the oxide film will not cover all surface of the parts, so still have some contaminants might be transferred to the surface of the stainless steel parts in the machining processes. If not removed, these particles will reduce the effectiveness of the original protective film.
When a part is being machined, there are amounts of free iron that will be transferred from the cutting tooling to the surface of the parts, thus creating a thin layer of rust on the surface of machining parts.
Similarly, if a CNC machining manufacturer might contain iron and it will adhere to the surface of the parts. Maybe this steel part appears shiny, but it still has some invisible particles of free iron can lead to rusting on the surface once it is exposed to air.
How Passivation Is Accomplished?
Passivation stainless steel is accomplished by submerging the parts into nitric acid. Then nitric acid will dissolve amounts of free iron or other contaminants from the surface of the part, and cleaning, re-oxidizing the chromium.
Due to nitric acid passivation can create a better passive surface to prevent maximum rust and corrosion of CNC steel parts. So far, this surface treatment has been widely used in different CNC machining industries.
