This is also the case for really smooth surface finishes. Using a reamer involves lowering the machine feeding rate. Reamers have a lot of cutting blades that are very small. They thus have a cutting depth of 0.05mm-0.1 mm. This makes them extremely accurate when cutting edges. We have to manually carry out reaming for smaller holes.
Another advanced CNC hole machining method is honing. It refers to an abrasive process that we carry out using a CNC machine tool. A hone comprises a reamer with abrasive planks in place of cutting blades. In addition, we can alter the planks to achieve different diameters. Upon ejection of the hone, the direction of rotation reverses. As a result, the hole’s surface ends up with crisscrossed microscopic grooves. This makes lubrication much more efficient.
Type of Hole Threading Strategies
Most holes need threads which are complex thin surfaces that are quite tasking to the machine. Luckily our experts have come up with specific ways of threading. But before that, we have to perform counterboring or countersinking. Both these processes entail the creation of a conical groove at the hole’s entrance. This allows for the correct entry of the threading tool to enable assembly of the actual parts.
One advanced hole threading method is tap drilling. It involves the use of a single tool that looks like a bolt but has a conical front area and chip removal grooves. The conical front helps increase the cut depth. The machining feed we use in threading is similar to a screw pitch. The tap drill first slowly inserts into the hole.
